Our Story

Local Hero Deli was established in the late 1980s by my mother, a remarkable chef, brilliant businesswoman, and my personal hero. Following my return from New York City, where I served tables at Tavern on the Green and Maxwell's Plum, alongside pursuing theater auditions that often ended in rejection, I joined her in what would become a cherished partnership spanning over two decades. Together, we embarked on numerous adventures and had the privilege of meeting countless remarkable individuals.

From the outset, Local Hero focused on offering wholesome, homemade food sourced directly from local farms, pioneering the farm-to-table movement long before it gained widespread recognition. Our success led to the expansion of three locations and the establishment of a thriving catering division that catered events across New England.

However, tragedy struck with the passing of my mother and the diagnosis of my son with Autism. Yet, through unwavering support from family, friends, and loyal customers, Local Hero has made a triumphant return. Today, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing not only healthy, homemade, farm-to-table cuisine but also food that aligns with my extensive research on Autism—clean food that nourishes both body and mind.

Passionate about the state of food production in the USA, a country I hold dear, I believe we lag behind much of the world, contributing significantly to issues like Autism, obesity, chronic disease, and cancer. At Local Hero, we prioritize humane treatment of animals, ensuring they roam freely on farms. Our practices include air-chilled chicken not washed in bleach, pork free of ractopamine (banned in 160 countries), and pasture-raised beef, free of hormones and GMO feed. Even our bread is free from Potassium bromate, linked to health concerns.

Local Hero takes immense pride in offering food that not only delights but also promotes well-being. It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to experience our commitment firsthand.
